WHO IS FOL?
FOL is a Nigerian-born Dallas Texas based Afro-beats
and Hip Hop artist, Surgeon, and Entrepreneur.
INFLUENCES
Growing up in Nigeria, early musical influences included King Sunny Ade and Fela. Preteen years in the Middle East created an appreciation for diversity of people and music. Hence a multicultural and multinational interest in music was forged. From the hard licks of heavy metal, the twangs of country music, the melodies of Middle Eastern songs to the heavy bass of rap and Hip Hop classics , FOL’s musical tastes developed into an eclectic mix. Das Efx was an early influence while Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg became even more significant influences on FOL’s desire to put rhythmic words over a beat.
BACK TO ROOTS
As a teenager, FOL returned to Nigeria. This was pivotal in ingraining his African roots into adulthood. FOL
wrote and performed his first full song, “Bang Bang,” during this period. The song was inspired by the movie Above The
Rim and a influences from listening to 2Pac, Easy E, and other rap act from the early 90's. To further
explore his musical talents, FOL performed classics records “5 on It” and “Gangsta’s Paradise” during talent shows.
WHY NOW?
Choosing to focus his efforts on a medical career, FOL became musically dormant for a few years. During this time Afrobeats became a wordwide sensation with acts like Burna Boy, Davido and Wiz Kid paving the way. After years in private
practice, FOL returned to the music scene in 2021. Releasing a single every month in 2021, FOL blended
afrobeat instrumentals with a hip-hop sensibility. This seems only to be the beginning as the musical growth continues.
